Literary Analysis of Book 2 - A Swiftly Tilting Planet

Suspense, Foreshadowing, Surprise Endings, Etc.
A good example of foreshadowing and suspense is how the names of the characters evolve throughout the book, eventually resulting in Branzillo. The surprise ending is when "Mad Dog" Branzillo is now calm and community-involved, and his entire section of the past has been changed. It is brain-bending to try to comprehend this event, even to the extent of people's memories being changed.

Symbolism
Charles Wallace is the savior to many people in this book, and that's exactly what he represents. Meg symbolizes hope and somewhat stability throughout the book even though she is inwardly confused. Mrs. O'Keefe, Calvin's mother and Meg's mother-in-law, shows worriness, and somewhat insanity.
